Icon13 Top-loading washers banned after 2008?

Comment: Is it true that starting in 2008, manufacturers will not be
allowed to sell any more Top Load Washer as stated in the below report? I
tried to find any Fed Law that says this and can't find anything. For
someone like me with a bad neck and back, it would be terrible to have no

A quick Google suggests that Gary Ollenburg (quoted in the OP) is a retailer, not a representative of a distributer or manufacturer. It's hard to tell whether he is saying that this is going to happen, or commenting on the result if it did.

I have no idea as to that - haven't heard it and it sounds like UL to me - but I do know that if you get the big pedestal for the front loaders, they are as easy if not easier on the back than the top loaders as they are just about at chest height - neither bending down nor reaching over for the clothes.

Not true.

Proposed California legislation would make it de facto true in California if they are allowed by the federal govenment to set their own, stricter than Federal standards.
As California faces another drought, the state has sued the federal government over its refusal to let the Left Coast set strict water-efficiency standards for washing machines. Five years ago, the Legislature passed a law requiring that washers sold after 2007 use 8.5 gallons or less per cubic foot of capacity, declining to six gallons by 2010.
That's an April 26th, 2007 article.

Back in 2000-2002 there was a lot of quoting of some guy named Michael Heberling that "Washington was set to ban" top loaders by the end of 2007. I find no indication that any such law existed.
