I swear I've heard this rumor before (before today), but I don't see it on either the snopes main page or searching the boards. Am I imagining things? |

I've never seen it. In terms of plausibility, the price of squid is usually pretty low, so I don't even see it making economic sense.

I heard the "This American Life" episode, and and it really sounded like the classic urban legend when the reporter tried to investigate it. Everyone interviewed for the story said something along the lines of "I haven't witnessed it personally, but I heard about it from so-and-so" or "I've never heard of that before, but I guess it's possible." The guy who wrote to the show who started this whole investigation claimed to have seen boxes labled "imitation calamari" but had to be told by someone else what it was made of, and he wouldn't go on the record. The guy who supposedly told him what was in the boxes contrtadicted that story and there never were any such boxes.
