I'm a feminst, and open to the concept of socialism (not really embracing so much as I understand where it comes from the way I feel about many philosophies. I may not agree with them but the thought processes behind them fascinate me), and I may be heterosexual, but am very pro-gay rights. However, I am unmarried with no children and career-oriented I guess that's enough to make me a Communist and a Lesbian. I guess I could be a role model for Girl Scouts too!

I spent about a hundred bucks on cookies the other day to help counteract the boycott. The woman selling them said she'd been yelled at, preached to, and even spit on that week. I had fun passing the cookies out to my friends for free. I hope they have a record cookie sales year, just like Planned Parenthood got a record number of donations after the Komen funding fiasco.

The scariest thing about GUSA isn’t any agenda. It’s the group’s consistent philosophy that girls deserve to be educated and informed that so unnerves its critics. It’s an encouragement of independent thought. And the outrage over that suggests a profound lack of trust in those “traditional” values and their persuasiveness. It sadly speaks to the ongoing reality that for many, the notion of letting girls figure things out for themselves is somehow radical. The Scouts don’t tell anybody what to do. Instead, they encourage members to simply to “Try It.” Try thinking. Try learning. Maybe that is a radical idea after all. Maybe Bob Morris should give it a shot.

Oh, we totally did march in formation, at summer camp, in cadence. Our cadence chants were different than the Marines, though.

One two three four five six seven eight! (8 regular march steps, stopping on 8)

We're! (left heel step) just! (right heel step) a little bit (bend at knees with feet together & straighten) crazy! (bow & straighten)

*repeat*

I had no idea it was secretly indoctrinating me to be a lesbian.

Ah, how did I forget that? I guess that proves that women have no place in making decisions or doing anything that involves intelligence.

I went to a cat show yesterday, and there were Girl Scouts there111!!!! They were--gasp!--selling baked goods and assisting the show ring attendants by cleaning cages and handing paper towels to the judges!!111 And I gave them money too--$.50 for some chocolate-covered pretzel thingees! I just know they will give that $.50 to Planned Parenthood!!
And those shameless hussies were flaunting those green sashes with all those pins on them!! Spreading those radical Girl Scout cooties!!!! No wonder I'm sniffly today!!

Dawn--but it could just be allergies too--Storm

I picked up a box from some Girl Scouts outside of Walgreens on my way to get tamales before seeing a touring Broadway show. Just goes to show that even in OK there are evil, evil Girl Scouts that lie hand in hand with socialized medicine, those brown people, and librul east-coast homosexuals. (Tongue firmly in cheek for the last sentence, but not the first.)

Boys who decide to claim a “transgender” or cross-dressing life-style are
permitted to become a member of a Girl Scout troop, performing crafts with
the girls

Oh, God, no! Not...not CRAFTS! *faints dead away*

If real girls perform crafts with icky transgender "girls," they'll turn gay. Or something.

I saw Girl Scouts at Lowes this weekend, and asked SO if he wanted cookies. He said no, so I just dropped a couple of bucks in the kitty. He said, "But you could have had cookies for that!"

The Girl Scouts Have Always Been Ahead of Their Time

Quote:
As Girl Scouts nationwide celebrate the 100th anniversary of their beloved organization, there has been a mild uptick in interest in the inner workings of cookie-selling, life-skills-developing institution, especially in comparison to the Boy Scouts. While neither organization can be described as particularly political, the Girl Scouts really do seem more empowering and more tolerant than the Boy Scouts

Say, come to think of it, following the whole Christian thing I am supposed to love my neighbor, right? But my neighbor is a lesbian. So is that an exemption?

No. You are supposed to love your lesbian neighbor. But you deny that lesbian neighbor the right to live her life as she sees fit, insuring that she will be unhappy. Because love is about making others unhappy.

The way to "love" your lesbian neighbor is to tell her that she'll go to Hell unless she repents.

Okay maybe this is a tad off-topic but is it just me or are all the Misogynistic Assholes of the World, louder and dumber this year? I mean, there've always been Misogynistic Assholes on the Right but for some reason, they seem even louder and dumber than usual this year. Usually, Misogynists make some attempt to clothe their naked hatred for half the population, but they're not even doing that anymore. Was some decision made that in addition to 2012 being the Year of the Dragon, 2012 would also be the year of assholes who act like rejects from the 12th century? Was there a meeting I wasn't invited to, due to my status as a girl with filthy girl parts, where this was decided?

I ask because in large part I am genuinely curious. I was hoping some of my fellow feminist Snopesters could clear up some confusion.

I am also aware I am going to be convicted for my overuse of the word "asshole" but there really aren't many words that describe these people better than that word.

Mouse, I would claim that, no, they are not actually louder or dumber. What has been happening is that a) they have received more traction of their dumbness and b) a backlash against that is occurring, making it seem louder than before.

In short, they have made themselves this lovely bed of nails. Now, let us see them bleed out on it.
