I'm nitpicking, but it's GSUSA, not GSA.

I have no words for the actual article.

Now I'm curious just who were these "lesbian, feminist, communist" role models that were on the list that they believe shouldn't have been, they don't deem worthy to be on a list of great women (Oh if it's someone like Susan B. Anthony that they disapprove of, I am going to smack them sideways. )

See http://www.wnd.com/2009/05/97977/

Apparently any woman who was rumored to have had even one same-sex relationship, or who merely supports gay rights, qualifies as a "lesbian."

Fight

Alright let the smacking begin! I guess creating the New Deal, fighting for women's suffrage, racial equality, being a legendary sports figure, being one of the first enviromentalists, is not what's important about these women.
That's apparently not what we are focusing on, it's that they were not "properly joined as God intended with the men folk!" (Of course if they had their way, these women wouldn't be outspoken or in their fields at all, unless of course they were speaking for "God and the proper role of Women," of course)

Not really. Oral sex carries a much lower risk Of STD transmission in general, and obviously there's no risk of pregnancy either. There's not "no risk," but the risks are generally significantly lower, not "the same."

I don't think it's my place or anyone else's to tell others how seriously they view oral sex. If they decide to view it as being comparable to vaginal or anal sex, that's their choice. If they decide to view it as much less of a big deal, that's fine too. Just so long as they understand the risks and can be informed in their decisions.

Valid points, but FTR I wasn't only talking about medical risks.

I don't presume to tell adults how seriously they should view oral sex. But the Girl Scouts don't, AFAIK, provide sexuality education to adults. It is completely appropriate, IMO, for a sexuality education program aimed at children/teens to make such a point about oral sex.

ETA: Further, with teen girls, I have real concerns about sexual relationships becoming one-sided, the girls servicing the boys. My WAG is that teen girls are far more likely to give their male partners BJs than their partners are to return the favor.

Finally, I didn't say anything about "how seriously [people] view oral sex" -- I objected to people, teen girls in particular, thinking of oral sex as not being sex.

Teaching teen girls that sex should be a two way street that they should enjoy if they are going to engage in it makes sense. Although could you imagine what the right wing slim machine would turn that into were it part of the official Girl Scout handbook?

Mass aneurysms would be my guess.

If anyone is looking for a program that does take that approach, I enthusiastically recommend Our Whole Lives, which is taught through Unitarian Universalist and United Church of Christ congregations.

Well, I'm both a feminist and a lesbian. And I'm sure many of these jackweasels who are against the GSAUS would think that I'm a Communist, too, so I guess I'm a triple threat! I find this particularly funny because I know many of these sorts wouldn't see me as a threat based upon their first impressions of me: they'd probably think I'm sweet and harmless because of how quiet and short (I'm under five feet tall) I am.

ETA: I always like how a lot pCms think that feminist = lesbian. I've have met lesbians who I would not describe as being feminists. And so many of them can't seem to fathom that men can be feminists, too. I wish we could ship these morons to an island far, far away from civilization...

I agree with your objection of how people don't view oral sex as not being sex. In addition to how people may not practice safe sex because of these views, it bugs me how a lot of people don't view many sex acts and behaviors as not being sex for social reasons. I think these views lead to some of the ignorance people have about sex--I think how people ask lesbians how they have sex because they lack sexual organs to penetrate with; assume that all lesbians use dildos because there must be some form of penetration to take place, or else it's not sex; or assume that all gay men engage in anal sex. I think that the focus of how sex should only be reserved for procreation often leads to the sort thinking I've described.

Bob Morris apologized ... sort of. He apologized for the "tone" of the letter, but still won't support the resolution.
