Icon23 Cheese really is crack. Study reveals cheese is as addictive as drugs

For years you've been telling your friends, family, co-workers and anyone who will listen that you're addicted to cheese. It's a part of every meal or snack, and you think about it constantly. According to a new study from the University of Michigan, cheese crack is a real thing. And so is your addiction.

Sure, you say that, but I saw the Instagram of you cowering in a corner, gnawing on a block of Velveeta!

Ha! An obvious photoshop.

Everybody knows that Velveeta isn't real cheese.

I made taco yesterday but had no cheddar to serve with them, just feta. I need to log off here and go to the supermarket to services my addiction. But I am also kind of addicted to Snopes. Which addiction will win out?

Well, that goes some way to explaining my current condition. This is an addiction, however, that I have absolutely no problem with. I really don't care if it will kill me, it tastes fantastic and is completely socially acceptable (except maybe in a gathering of hardcore vegans).

There isn't anything in the study about cheese being "as addictive as drugs." It just says that cheese and some other foods meet the criteria for food addiction. Also:
Quote:
Pizza, unsurprisingly, came out on top of the most addictive food list.
I don't know where the writer is getting this from. Table 2 in the study is labeled the "Average frequency count of how often a food was selected as problematic" and the first four items on it are:

Quote:
1 Chocolate 27.60 Y 14 13 35
2 Ice Cream 27.02 Y 14 15 98
3 French Fries26.94 Y 21 19 266
4 Pizza 26.73 Y 22 10 551
So pizza seems to be fourth.

And table 3, after the second part, shows
Quote:
Rank Food Mean Rating Processed? GL Fat (grams) Sodium (milligrams)
1 Pizza 4.01 Y 22 10 551
2 Chocolate 3.73 Y 14 13 35
2 Chips 3.73 Y 12 10 160
4 Cookie 3.71 Y 7 4 63
5 Ice Cream 3.68 Y 14 15 98

Pothead, crackhead, cheesehead, it all fits.

ETA: Dairy is certainly a drug. If I don't have dairy, I get the milk shakes.

Coming from northern Illinois, that one is rather appropriate.
