Icon09 Police Chief Apologizes for Citing Urban Legend in Testimony About Pot Legalization

An Annapolis police chief is apologizing for citing incorrect data during testimony opposing the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana. On Tuesday February 25, 2013 Chief Michael Pristoop testified in front of the Maryland Senate Judiciary Committee during which he indicated a number of deaths occurred in Colorado on the first day of marijuana legalization in that State.

Pristoop later discovered that the numbers presented were not accurate but an urban myth.

If they legalize pot -- they will have to start dealing with serious crimes that don't net forfeiture funds.

You may think it shouldn't, but the reality is, it does. That's why you check your "facts" before you spout them at an official hearing.

I agree that telling any old story you heard to scare local legislators without checking the facts should earn you a degree of mistrust from the public. I am surprised the foxnews included the quote about how forfeiture benefits law enforcement.
