LTTMMH: According to RI state law, I am legally able to enforce the dictionary in the course of my duties. The Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, 2003 edition, to be exact.

I will TELL you what the definition of "is", is!

What are your duties, Crius?

And when will the law be updated to include the Online Merriam-Webster?

When there was a downsizing/transfer of jobs at my old location for this job, a lot of people left behind interesting things. Among the things I acquired then was a set of three black ink drawings of 2 covered bridges and a mill done on pieces of slate, incorporating the roughness of the slate, and mounted on rough-hewn stained boards. They have such a nice sense of combining the roughness of the medium, which is reflective of the subject, with very artfully done depictions. It may not be high conceptual avant-garde ART, but I like them.

Enjoying the art left behind by those who have been "relocated". Why does this not sound like it ends well?

Not merely 'enjoying' - I appropriated!

But it had already been moved to a disposal area (not in the dumpsters yet, but awaiting transfer to the dumpsters)

from "letters you wish you could send" -- my foster daughter received a package yesterday from her parents with some toys in it.
It wasn't the "huge bag" they had promised, but it was at least something --and they even included receipts in the bag (double joy -- they actually paid for the presents) .

I am glad they made the effort to honor their promise -- and did it the right way--

Definitely sad that you feel the need to celebrate that they happened to include proof that they paid for them, but I certainly understand your relief and appreciation.

And I am sure your foster saw the package as 'huge' - whether it would seem so to us or not.

A month ago I requested some time off work so I could attend my brother's graduation from Basic Training. Then I found out that the graduation coincided with a big project at work, so I might not be able to go. After a few days of anxiety, my boss told me that they should be able to get by without me for a couple days, so I get to see my brother graduate after all.

Hooray for not being an important employee!

ATNM -- a few months ago the bios were arrested for shoplifting -- 10 minutes before their scheduled visit. hence the relief.

I just got an email from a state government organisation confirming that my proposal to climb inside a life-sized statue of an elephant and jump in a river in front of 10,000 people has been approved.

(I've been accepted into the birdman rally contest yet again)

I did not doubt for a second that you had solid grounds for your relief.

In this instance, fire inspections for commercial properties. By virtue of my certification to do so under RI state law, I enforce the NFPA standards so adopted into that law. And by virtue of that, I also enforce every one of some 200+ other standards and reference materials from various entities that are sub-referenced in those core standards, one of which to my surprise was the dictionary.

Given the glacial pace the state is creeping into the 20th century, I anticipate it entering the 21st sometime in the mid-23rd.

Writing group in general makes me happy. So glad I found one in my area. It's really helped me a lot, having people to bounce ideas off of and give suggestions. But I really like that tonight, well, in my novel, one of the characters is basically functionally illiterate and basically describes herself as stupid because that's what she's heard her entire life, so she internalized it. Glad to know that they knew enough that just because she was illiterate didn't mean she was stupid. Yeah, I know it's a small thing to be proud of but hey, thread title.

So, you can close down a commercial building if the sign pointing to the fire exit is mis-spelled? Cool!

After 2 days of laryngitis (and missed work), my voice is finally coming back. I still sound hoarse, but at least I can talk.

I just found out I won a prize in last month's Sacramento Region Commuter Club raffle -- a $20 gift card for a local sandwich shop. I guess my strategy of entering for one of the less popular prizes paid off.

A co-worker who's on maternity leave came to visit with her new baby and I got to hold him. He was sound asleep and very snuggly.

There's some apartments near my house that had some fairly advanced crassula ovata (jade plant) growing in their garden which I've been coveting for a while and I noticed tonight that they'd torn them out and dumped them next to their bins ... so those plants I've been admiring for years are now mine.

Firefox jumplist icons are back! Whee!

I had to do a Firefox reset to get them to work, but they're back.
