You know, the people who make these emails could save a whole lot of time and effort by just sending round "N*ggers are stupid! Lol!" every few months.

Someone should have informed the manager that Burger King also sells non-meat products.

You'd have thought that the poster with the onion rings and the ice cream would have been a bit of a hint.

It makes a particular contrast with low-level Burger King employees everywhere else, who are renowned for their intelligence, wit and literacy...

Though it's obvious which race is being mocked in the OP, it seems equally plausible (and, to me, more likely) that the sign was written by someone who does not speak English as a first language.

Of course, there's plenty of room for racism even if that's the case, so hopefully the commenter in the OP won't lose too much sleep over it.

The the picture means is that someone that does not know which 'mēt' to use. We do not know who put the sign up or whether it was someone in the restaurant or someone that wanted a funny picture. Since the lights are on in the restaurant it doesn't tell us if it is closed or not.

What indications of race are there, beyond (I assume) the sign itself? The text doesn't mention race. Is "Detroit" a codeword? Or are people making the same assumption as you say the person who photographed it was?

It's the use of AAVE grammar ("we closed," "we out").

Yes, but that's the sign, not the commentary...

The city of Detroit is 81.6% black, which is very high in a country that is only about 13% black.

I actually had no idea it was that high. That's much higher than pretty much other major US city I can think of.

I was surprised to see, according to here, that Gary, IN is the only other city with a higher black population.

However if the OP would have said "Burger King in Gary" I wouldn't have automatically assumed a racist intent.
