At least she's got good support: all the food she needs brought to her, a safe space she doesn't have to use energy defending, and bottle assistance with the milk supply.

One of Verse's newborns has died.
The KA Discord chat believes it was #9, the last born & the ginger marked with black on his head.
According to Mr A, he hadn't any weight gain in the past 24 hours.
The KA Discord chat says something happened with him just before midnight, I didn't look at the video.
DJ found him when she arrived home for her 24 hour visit.
I feel so sad for Mr A, he has been on his own through the birth & supplement feedings.
Sad night.

I'm sorry to hear that; but not entirely astonished. That's a very large litter, and sometimes one (or more) just doesn't develop properly.

She also was a long time getting him out, wasn't she? so there might have been damage at that point.

All the kits did start off nursing, though, so I had hoped they'd all be all right.

I feared something like this happening with so many kittens. We had active momma cats during my childhood that occasionally lost kittens when the litter was 6 or more, and it always seemed to be the last one born.

My thoughts for Mr. A and DJ, and here's hoping the rest of Verse's litter will grow up healthy and happy.

S'mai bawb:

A little more news on Book. All of Verse's kittens went to the vet yesterday and the vet discovered that Book was actually a Bookette

I looked at the beginning and was wondering where the eighth kitten was --

Not really squirmies any longer, are they? That's getting to be some pretty confident walking.

The next stage of kitten development after Squirmy is Wobbly.

They're getting to be Wobblies now as they learn to coordinate all those legs.

And then eventually there's Levitation.

Old cats jump. Middle-aged cats leap. Young cats levitate.

I think they have to graduate from Bound first.

And everyone knows that little kittens can teleport since no one has taught them they can't yet.

They have to get past Ear Scratching first... then they can consider the moon...

Sometimes it really seems like the only explanation.

Years ago, when the two cats now beginning to fade out from old age were kittens, I had them for the first couple of months shut in one room, mostly to protect them from the Older Tom, who, if I translated correctly the noise he made on first introduction, had threatened to kill them. (Eventually they all became good friends.) The room was adjacent to a bathroom with a connecting door; when I used the bathroom, I opened the door, both to give them the extra space and for the socialization time.

So I was in the bathtub, and here were these two Small Kittens (about four months old), prowling around on the edge of the bathtub. I said, 'be careful, you'll fall in!' Sure enough, Kitten One fell into the bathtub. I scooped out the now soaking wet kitten, and he ran off into the other room.

About two minutes later, his sister fell in. About half a second after that, she too was out of the bathtub and racing into the other room.

But the thing is, I didn't scoop her out. I didn't have time. And I could swear she didn't touch me, to launch off from me; and that she didn't swim over to the side and climb out; and the water was too deep for her to have launched off from the bottom of the tub. She was just in the water; and then she was just out of the water.

Teleportation! or, at least, Levitation!

Default Release The Wobbly Hordes

S'mai bawb:

This morning, Mr. A cut open the front of the birthing box to release the wobbly hordes of kittens out into the annex (who immediately decided that they wanted to sit in Mr. A's lap).

So look out, world! The Well Versed Kittens are loose.

Ta ra 'wan,

Ieuan "The Fluffy Onslaught" ab Arthur
