Bonsai Kitten

So last night I was playing on my laptop and I felt something stick me in the forearm. Scared the hell out of me. A very quick investigation revealed the source...

It's been a long time since I've had a kitty small enough to get into unusual places...

Bonsai Kitten

It's a week and a half on, and the cutesy nicknames have begun for my new kitten. His name is Marmalade, but my husband sometimes calls him Aloysius Marmalade Alleycat. We also often call him Marm and Marmie. I've taken to calling him Marmadoodle or, when he's sacked out asleep, Marmalump. He is also Marmaloaf, when in the "kitty loaf."

Also... Lounging practice... Ash is a good teacher to little Marmalade...

Seems like your kitties are getting settled in. Perhaps Ash will give Marmalade the benefit of his years of experience, whereas Marmalade can remind him of what it was like to be a kid.

So we noticed that the new kitten Marmalade was sleeping on a clipboard on a shelf under the coffee table. We got him a kitty bed today and moved the clipboard. I don't suppose any of you can hazard a guess as to where he's sleeping right now?

That's not a clipboard; it's a kitty bed --

I bought a cat bed for Nelson when I adopted him. I ended up returning it...

My clipboard! Mine! So comfy! *

*translated from Cat

ETA: some years ago, I bought a dog bed. It was a couple of months before the dog got to use it; it was instantly claimed by one of the cats.

Eventually, they all started trading it off.

Some prefer a less soft bed...

Ash largely ignores Marmalade, but the kitten is so full of energy and playfulness that sometimes the constant activity seems to wear on Ash. Those are the times when Marm gets a hiss and a swat when he gets too close. It's an old man grumping at a toddler for playing too loud. (Go away, kid, ya bother me!)

They share food and litter boxes (we have one for each), so it's not all bad. I think we've had a success, and it can only get better from here.

It doesn't happen often, but sometimes they do play together. Here they are sharing the cat toy that is my sweater coat...

Hope it survived!

I was talking about cat toys with my dad and he said "cat toys! Cats spit at cat toys! They don't want cat toys! They want human things like milk cap rings. "

Pens. Pens, pencils, and anything on a desk or table that is either similar to, or near, a pen or pencil.

Or possibly something that is neither similar to nor near a pen or pencil, if I have very annoyingly put all the pens and pencils in a closed drawer.

Young Cat, I'm looking at you! (literally -- he's currently curled up on the desk, looking as innocent as can be.)

The rules defining a Cat Toy are thus...

If it moves, it's a cat toy.
If it doesn't move but the cat can make it move, it's a cat toy.
If it doesn't move and the cat can't make it move, it's a scratching post, which is a cat toy.

I couldn't convince my dear departed cat Ms. B that despite the name a computer mouse was not a cat toy. It became especially difficult once a friend gave me a Bluetooth cordless mouse. I never knew where it would be in the morning.

Morning
misses Ms. B and all her games.
