Di Filippo became an informant for the Italian police after being arrested in 1995. In return for collaborating, he entered the witness protection program and was given a new identity.

So he has a "new identity" with not only the same name, but also enough identifying characteristics that his daughter could readily identify a portrayal of his former life on a TV show? I think he should be suing the witness protection program.

The witness protection program isn't permanently maintained. He would have been free to go back to his own name at any time.

Maybe he told his daughter that he used to be a gangster (with a different name?) but he was a nice friendly gangster who just made tea and sandwiches for the other gangsters and delivered shopping to their grannies if they were too busy gangstering to do it themselves. It sounds more that he's upset that the program alleged he'd killed 20 people, rather than just the 4 he'd officially admitted to, and she found that out from the TV. Or maybe she'd reconciled herself to the 4 murders but was upset about the other 16?
