Default Trump the 2020 candidate immune to criticism by non-profits?

From a twitter thread (reformatted since there's no character limit here):

Quote:
IMPORTANT. Donald Trump filed with @FEC for 2020 reelection on January 20th, 2017. This is major for several reasons.

First and foremost, it is NOT NORMAL. Obama filed for 2012 reelection in April 2011. Incumbent declaring before midterms is unheard of.

Several MAJOR implications. If officially a candidate, can use candidate status to curry favor with PACs, businesses, other organizations. Because he's acting as Trump the candidate, not Trump the president. Different rules apply.

Even more importantly - completely changes how non profits can handle him. 501c3's cannot "campaign" or risk losing nonprofit status. It means they can't speak negatively about him. Imagine @PPact having to convey risk to #PlannedParenthood w/ limits on how to address. This throws nonprofits' strategy for next few years into chaos. They must figure out how to work against Trump w/o "campaigning." And further muddies the already swampy ethical waters of financial gain, #conflictsofinterest & business transactions.
If this is legal, why doesn't every incumbent re-register immediately?

Because of how our government works in large part on an honor system that Trump is unwilling or unable to abide by.

Removing a charity's tax exempt status for campaigning almost never happens. They pretty much have to repeatedly tell everyone "Vote for X" in official communications before that becomes likely.

For example, how many charities lost their exempt status for campaigning against Obama in the 19 months he was a candidate?

True, but you now have a vindictive maniac in charge.

Who has proved he doesn't need actual legality to engage in vindictive acts.

If he can "use candidate status to curry favor...[b]ecause he's acting as Trump the candidate, not Trump the president", can't the non profits criticize him as Trump the president, not Trump the candidate?

It isn't quite so pollyanish that a single person can get away with anything simply by disregarding the system. It would be the failure of the majority of Congress to do their jobs that could allow Trump to disregard the system.

The conspiracist in my thinks that he is using this candidacy to build up his war chest to assist in his defence in all the lawsuits he sees coming his way.

He used his "charity" to do it before, but people are watching that play now. Time to get his free money some where else.

Yup.

And what scares the hell out of me is that we need to rely on a majority of Congress that has been failing to do their jobs for some time.
