Default Gauntlet video game is making a comeback

Gauntlet, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, innovates on past titles while staying true to the brand's legendary format. Players select from four classic fantasy-based characters: Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, or Elf.

All I can say is that it better have the narration! There's nothing like being low on health and hearing that dreaded phrase, "ELF SHOT THE FOOD!"

Damn elf... he's always shooting the food...

When I discovered this game in college I spent sooo many quarters at it. I whiled away hours and hours.

When my kids were younger, we discovered console versions of the game and I went out an promptly purchased every version available.

I was a huge fan of it as a kid; I've played a newer version (don't recall the name but the graphics are way updated) in the local arcade but it didn't really 'do it' for me).

There have been several versions of Gauntlet released on both the arcade and for home consoles between the late 90s and the late 00s.

Most of them weren't very good, especially one of the console games that was put out for PS2 and XBox.

My friends and I used to play this all the time. I don't know how much money we wasted, but it was challengingly addictive.

And I remember the distinct narrative voice in a slightly Boris Karloff accent, "The Elf is about to die!"

To this day, my best friend and I will say we're hungry with "chillas needs food, badly."
