Thing I learned in my dream: Cats are banned from the local parks, on the grounds that dogs will try to chase them and then cartoon-like chaos will ensue. The sign communicating this rule is illustrated with a pictogram of a guy walking a cat on a leash with the universal "no" symbol over it. The ban also applies to big cats like mountain lions, that is to say wild cats are not allowed to enter the park, but I have no idea how they enforce that.

It's Saturday afternoon and I'm getting ready to go to one of those formal dance parties I sometimes go to on Saturday nights.

I've got to go to the cleaners to pick up my good clothes. I have plenty of time.

The person in charge of getting the clothes to me is a local radio personality doing it as a second job.

Thanks.

Bill

There's a new type of hot dog on the market--one that's stuffed with peanut butter. The ad for it shows a close up of the peanut butter stuffing and boy that's a lot of peanut butter!

Weird Al Yankovic has a small tattoo of a spider on his back, which has serious personal meaning for him but he won't reveal the meaning to anyone. He's had it for years, but never mentions it because he doesn't want fans or the press making dumb references to his Spider-Man or "Another Tattoo" parodies.

Also, Broward County is under an emergency flood warning after a water main broke.

I am being shadowed at work by two women who were hired by the hotel manager to check on quality and morale.

One kept saying "I can't wait to see you get fired" whenever I showed them how to fill out paperwork, what reports to run, etc. Management was astonished that I had enough after one shift and put in my notice. "But why should that bother you?"

Many of the older, larger homes in the town where I work have been renovated over the decades/centuries they've been standing. An odd trend is that many of them have oddly shaped closets that are more like small hallways, and access tiny bathrooms that are constructed strangely almost to the point of being unusable. Like you have to remove a plastic panel at knee height to get into the bathroom, the toilet is immediately in front, and the full shower/bath is at head height while you sit on the toilet immediately to your right, so you would have to climb up into it in order to use the shower/tub. There may or may not also be a smaller toilet even higher up in the shower. The ceiling of this room appears to go all the way up to the roof of the house, and may contain even more levels of toilets and baths.

I attended another of these events.

It was some kind of a convention of a group I didn't know I belonged to but with which I'm connected in come way though AARP.

The people I was talking with seemed nice enough but when I got to the main dining hall apparently the ice water had already been give out and I didn't get any.

Thanks.

I was at the most incredible amusement park (not in a fantasy way, but in that it was something that probably could actually be built). The themes flowed wonderfully into one another, and the rides and attractions were a blast. And I even got a behind the scenes VIP tour!

I wish that inspiration would carry over whenever I try to build something in Planet Coaster, though.

(*Note to self, however; something is only "180 feet tall" when the base point is "0"... if you're consistently going to start at "1" -- and you know you're starting at "1" -- its going to be a foot shorter than stated.)

Got one, finally.

There is a magical artifact called The Thurible (which is not an actual thurible; it's more like a small wooden cup, small enough to be held comfortably in one hand, made of dark, smooth wood, with a flat lid on top). A team of Nazi lizardmen is escorting it to an evil lair; a team of anime heroes is setting out to try and win it back. The last known user of The Thurible was Queen Victoria; in a very cinematic bit, she is patiently looking through an assortment of needles in a cloth roll - each needle in and of itself an artifact in it's own right - and selects one, then begins trying to pierce The Thurible. Doing so will grant her... a wish? Some kind of access to The Thurible's power, anyways.

The two teams were represented in-dream by movie posters instead of scenes; the Nazi lizardmen were, upon awakened reflection, clearly inspired by the Ball Fondlers, just more lizardmen.

There a convention that I attend occasionally in my dreams (and did again last night). It isn't much like any of the other conventions I've attended in reality. The hotels are always massive, with strange elevator and lobby configurations, and seem to be sparsely populated, even with the convention going on. I'm usually sharing a hotel room with some friends, but while I know they are there, they're not visibly present with me in the dream. There's usually some vendor out in the lobby (no dealer's room, apparently) who is dressed in Tudor garb. I can't remember what he's selling, but he's a regular at these conventions. Note: in reality I can't think of any similar vendor.

The "plot" is that I'm trying to get somewhere I need to be (like onstage at the Masquerade), and having trouble finding my way through the strange logistical arrangement of the hotel - which is different every time.

My guess is that this is a fannish variation on forgetting to go to class and/or being late for a final exam. It's just strange that it recurs with such specific details.

Perhaps the Tudor man has a map of the hotel?

Next time ask him to help you!

(great opening to a Stephen King book!)

I learned that I can receive replies to a thread I started here last night in the form of messages embroidered on throw pillows. As in, I am in physical possession of pillows with people's replies to my thread on them. I know that I can somehow reply using these pillows as well. I can highlight the text of people's posts by swiping my finger across them, but I can't figure out how to quote, or copy and paste. I mean how am I supposed to right click a pillow?

These are my favorite types of dreams, when two objects with very separate concepts mesh over each other and somehow still perform their functions- but if Dream You starts to think about it too much, the function fails.

I apparently have a tattoo on my upper arm based on the Heinz ketchup label. For some reason it needed touching up. The tattoo artist told me I should keep it hidden: people will be offended because of Heinz' well-known anti-gay stance. I assured her they have changed their attitude and are now actively working on a pro-gay image.

I only just remembered this because I just overheard some coworkers talking about forklift training -- I learned that you can drive a forklift on the street, and it can keep up with regular traffic. That's pretty much all I remember about that dream, seeing a forklift driving down a major city street at the same speed as other traffic, and thinking "I have to remember to post about this in the odd things you saw today thread." In fact I had the vague notion that there was something I wanted to post there all day. But I guess it actually belongs here.

The "facts" of this dream kept bothering me, so I tried to figure out where it came from. I found out that some time ago Heinz was accused of homophobia when it withdrew a mayonnaise commercial in the U.K. after viewer complaints about the depiction of two men kissing. I must have heard about it at the time but not thought about it since. Heinz recently reintroduced a mayonnaise, and seeing a commercial for it may have dredged up the memory. I have on occasion worn pro-gay-rights items, such as a t-shirt that says "straight but not narrow", so I guess that went into the mix as well.

Albuquerque is actually right on the Gulf of Mexico and has gorgeous white sand beaches. They also have a beautifully maintained electric streetcar system that goes pretty much everywhere a tourist wants to go. Unfortunately the track's bells that warn you of them get clogged with white sand way too easily.

This isn't really a thing I learned, but last night I was dreaming that I was petting my cat when I was awakened by my cat jumping onto the bed in real life. That was momentarily very confusing.

Another visit to the place where I got my master's degree.

But, there's a sign up saying the program I was in has moved to a different building. The school now has actual streets, with street names, and there's an instruction how to get to the place where my program now is.

When I got to the new building, the entrance is blocked by all this junk furniture. It's almost as if someone put it there because they didn't want me there. But, there was someone there and they assured me that it wasn't put there for that reason.

Thanks.

Bill
