No Woman in fatal car crash had brakes cut for crack pipe

Police in Pennsylvania say a man who cut his girlfriend's brake lines trying to get piece of pipe for crack smoking faces homicide charges after she lost control of the car, crashed into a tree and died.

No

I heard about this on the news as I was arriving at work. This joker should have just gone to Crack Pipe-A-Rama; doing all of that took a lot more work.
Poor woman!

This could be a straight-up "stupid crackheads" story, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to it than that, like maybe the "crack pipe out of a brake-line" dodge was the first excuse he could come up with when they arrested him for murder.

Didn't work very well, did it (although I'm kinda with ASL here, given how much work it would've been to cut the lines)?

Also doesn't every car made in at least the past 50 years have a split braking system, meaning if you lose fluid in a single line you still at least have working brakes on two wheels? Meaning he would have had to cut at least two lines to completely disable her brakes. If he was really looking for a quick crack pipe why go through the extra work of cutting two lines rather than just cutting two pieces out of one line if you were trying to make two pipes? Although even losing only half your brakes would greatly increase your stopping distance, so if you weren't expecting it that could still cause an accident.

He may have damaged both brake lines when cutting the one. Most cars I've seen have the lines running close together. If he used a screwdriver or such to pry them away from the car body before cutting one, he could have damaged the non-cut one.

Also, if this were a movie...

So most cars are like the ground vehicle equivalent of a DC-10, then?

Not quite. Cars have a parking brake which can be used in an emergency.

Allegedly, she was the one needing the pipe, so whether she was in a condition to figure out how to use the parking brake...

Or pretty much any other airliner. Even some modern military aircraft have that issue. Making sure that the hydraulic lines were separated so a single round or piece of flak couldn't destroy them both was one of the things specifically addressed when designing the A-10.
