-24 deg F and falling. I usually never bother to warm up the car before I leave work.

I just may make an exception tonight...

If it'll start, that is --

Good luck, everybody in The Vortex! It's supposed to get cold here, but nowhere near that cold; current prediction is negative 8 (also F), which IME does happen here some winters, though not all of them, especially recently.

Seattle--one of the warmer spots, as I understand it (although "less cold" is probably more accurate)--was in the mid-20s this morning.

There was not a cloud in sight to keep the heat in.

Meanwhile, in California, the high today is predicted to be in the mid-60s F, although it's supposed to drop into the 50s later this week.

Thanks everyone. My family doesn't really deal with stuff together at all so it's good to hear some kind words from someone.

We went in to say out goodbyes the following morning (which was awkward due to the whole "We don't deal with stuff" thing) and then went out own ways pretty much immediately. As per Mum's requests there won't be a funeral or service or even any kind of burial, she asked to be cremated and her remains put in urns and given to Dad and me and my brother. So I guess I'll get an urn at some point, apart from that it's all done and over.

My family is terrible at communication. Apparently my parents knew that Mum was seriously ill as early as mid November but they didn't tell me or my brother for about a month.

GM, I'm sorry that your family is trying to deal with this by not dealing with it. Sounds like that's hard on you.

Long-distance hugs from here.

As if the polar vortex weren't enough, we just had an incident at a natural gas facility which has reduce the natural gas supply in the state by 64%.

GM, I'm very sorry to hear about your Mum.

I too had a short visit before my mother passed. I too wish it could have been longer. I sympathise with your feelings.

You have friends who have been down this path before. Don't be shy about asking for directions.

I have a friend who is allergic to the protein in milk. Therefore, she must avoid dairy in all forms. She has found some (to her) quite good vegan cheeses. Have you tried those?

The dairy substitutes I've seen seem to be made of soya or almonds. I can't eat nuts. Or most green vegetables.

But I have been searching and I do appreciate the suggestion.

Morning
Really wouldn't want to go out with my face in a pint of Ben & Jerry's.

We got our house. We close 2/25. I'll be glad to not have to deal with my landlord who pretty much comes and goes as he pleases. It's a bit pricy, but our utilities should drop a lot. This house has way too many windows.

Annnd...it has a huge tub I can soak in. I'm pretty stoked and wish we could be there today.

Landlord had the notion that we could just stroll out and find a place that day. Talk about checking privilege.

Yay Sylvanz!

Morning, have you tried Daiya fake cheese? It's the only one I bother with. https://daiyafoods.com/our-foods/shr...-board-shreds/
