I think I may have actually damaged my nasal membranes when I breathed in some toxic smoke a few days ago after I burnt my Sculpey in the oven, when I breath deeply I can still smell it.

I didn't enjoy it as much on the second read through this week. The first time I read it about a year ago I was impressed that it did a lot of inventive stuff with superhero tropes but this time I noticed there was way more boob & sex jokes than I remembered.

I also thought it was fun for a while, but then it seemed to get bogged down in some sort of complicated semi-secret-vampires-etc plot, and I wasn't interested enough to bother trying to figure out what was going on. And the jokes seemed to get repetitive.

Yeah there was a real change of tone when they started the vampire secret society storyline. It felt like the creator suddenly discovered the Anita Blake books and changed his mind and wanted to do an urban horror comic instead of a superhero comic.

Seemed more like the author just wanted to show Sydney's reaction to as many different types of fantasy and horror critters as possible.

My main beef with the author is that they've started shilling some crappy harem sci-fi novels in their author notes.

The bane of my Kindle Unlimited book searches. There is a TON of harem and reverse-harem stuff. Fine, if that's what g-you like, but not my thing. Just plain SF/F/H. thank you. Plenty of porn free on the internet.

Hopefully you like LitRPG, Military Space, or Post-Apocalyptic or you are pretty much SOL as far as Kindle Unlimited SF/F.

You can find a decent number of comedy books in KU. Nothing at the level of Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams, but I've come across a few that are worth the read.
Maybe there should be a Kindle Unlimited thread where people can point out specific books they found there, so we can help each other weed through the crap.

The paths outside my flats aren't well-lit (deliberately, I think; I don't mind this) and apparently we've been having trouble lately hiring gardeners for maintenance on the budget the management company allows. The result of this is that on the way home from the pub tonight, I walked straight into a tree branch and it scratched my forehead.

That isn't what annoyed me, though. When I looked in the mirror, there was a small scratch in the middle and to the right side of my forehead, which had bled slightly, as these things do, and there was a perfect single line of blood leading down from this scratch to the corner of my right eyebrow. At the moment, I've got quite a large beard which I'm sometimes told makes me look like a Viking. Together with my beard, this scratch and line of blood and my annoyed expression added to that impression and looked quite good.

And I didn't think to take a selfie, until after I'd washed off the line of blood, when there would have been no point. I could have got a fantastic picture.

I hoped it would bleed some more if I waited, but it was only a small scratch and apparently that one blood trickle was all it could manage. Bah!

IS the scratch in the shape of a lightning bolt?

Are you a wizard, now?

Well I don't think I'm a wizard because the scratch is just a horizontal line and I had to take revenge on the tree just now (in the form of public service) using secateurs to chop off the offending branch, rather than blasting it with a fireball as I would otherwise have done.

I might be a weretree, I suppose. I'll have to wait for the next full moon to find out... which, as luck would have it, is tomorrow... I wonder how I would tell if I was a weretree, though? I'm already quite rooted to my bed in the mornings. Leaves in it perhaps? But if there are any strange posts tomorrow night written a few letters at a time with long pauses and ranting against axes and fire, maybe that will be me...

Bang Head

Kind of hard to avoid it; you how we love our puns!

Anyway, going back to Crius of CoH's beef about Kindle Unlimited books, I would like to know whether or not it's possible for authors to write a stand-alone book. I don't care what the genre is; I'm a bit tired of every other book I see in the library part of a series or A Some Detective Or Other Line of Work story. I don't completely hate these types of books, but I just get tired of seeing so may of them.

I have Ratopia in my crawl space and Antventure Land in my kitchen. My house is apparently an amusement park for nature.
