Default I have mgus

I've been donating plasma. Today (would have been my 4th time) I was deferred because of some funky protine called mgus. I wish they'd let me know on the 15th when I could have seen my doctor and saved me the drive. Now I have to wait 'till Monday. I'm not thrilled with what I've been reading about it.

FWIW, which is pretty much nothing (I'm not a doctor, and I first heard of this when I saw your post), Mayo Clinic says "MGUS usually causes no problems."

Does sound like it needs to be checked out. But here's hoping you've got one of the no-problem cases.

Well the MGUS was, as suggested above, "Nothing to worry about...but, somehow 6 years ago I was diagnosed with COPD. The "interesting" part is no one bothered to mention it to me, and I was not tested. COPD is a permanent deferral from plasma donation. I did the COPD testing last week, but I haven't heard back yet. I've never smoked, or have any of the other known risk factors. Yeah, second hand smoke, but that is pretty tiny %. Ugh

Ain't that grand? I had "mono" in college. Ten years later, talking to my physician, I mentioned it and he said, "what mono? You had hepatitis in college." No one ever told me. But then again, no wonder I nearly died.

Oh, so you were supposed to somehow divine it using a Ouija Board?
