Jaded Men's rights activists call for boycott of 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' cite feminist agenda

Quote:
(The Hollywood Reporter) A well-known "men's rights activist" blog is calling for a boycott of the postapocalyptic film "Mad Max: Fury Road" for being a "feminist piece of propaganda posing as a guy flick."
http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/15/entert...eat/index.html

And then there's this...

Quote:
Clarey writes that he is concerned "men in America and around the world are going to be duped by explosions, fire tornadoes, and desert raiders into seeing what is guaranteed to be nothing more than feminist propaganda, while at the same time being insulted AND tricked into viewing a piece of American culture ruined and rewritten right in front of their very eyes."
Uhhhmm... the original movies were made IN Australia, BY Australians, and STARRING Australians. Just because they were popular in America, doesn't make it American culture.

What were they thinking, having Mad Max do things because a woman wants him to?! That's totally against the franchise. It's "Two men enter" not "One man and one woman enter".

ETA: Also, all you need to know about this complainer is in here:
Quote:
Author Aaron Clarey admits he has not seen the film yet, but his self-proclaimed "spidey sense" noticed that Charlize Theron "talked a lot during the trailers" for the film
"Ugh! The women with the talking! Everyone knows that women should only be in action movies to have tits."

The director lets his woman talk in a movie? He has to get better control over his woman!

This is basically the first thing that's given me any interest in seeing the movie.

Probably still going to pass, though.

Bolding mine. There are feminist EELS in this movie? Count me in!

If it's not your thing, that's cool, but if you didn't know, it is currently the best reviewed movie of the year. It has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average review score of 8.8/10. That just slightly edges out Selma, which is also 99% but with an 8.7/10 average.

Really? Based on the trailers I figured it was going to be a fairly uninspired action flick.

Referring to your "spidey sense" sounds pretty girly. Nothing wrong with that, but given the context, I'm just sayin'

Also, the amount an actor speaks in a trailer relative to other actors is not something one should need "spidey sense" to notice.

Well, cut him a little slack.

I mean, once someone says that they're an MRA you already know they're working with a handicap.

"Spidey Sense" is from Spiderman, why would that sound "girly"? (Not that there is anything wrong with that )

Because Spidey Sense is based on intuition, which is girly and weak. Real Men(TM) either have super-fast reflexes or just take the blow.

Quoted in the OP article:

Quote:
all the other men (and real women) in the world will never be able to see a real action movie ever again
But Real Women™ don't want to see a real action movie. Real Women™ only want to watch Chick Flicks™.

thorny -- if I'm doing it, it must be something women do, she says as she grabs a wrench and heads out to work on the tractor -- locust

"SJW-ing"? I am guessing from the context it's something truly horrible - I mean if it's mentioned in the same breath as feminism and socialism it's got to be pretty bad but what is it? South Jersey Waltzing? Swedish Jehovah Witnessing?

"Social Justice Warrior"

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/social-justice-warrior

Quote:
Social Justice Warrior is a pejorative label applied to bloggers, activists and commentators who are prone to engage in lengthy and hostile debates against others on a range of issues concerning social injustice, identity politics and political correctness. In contrast to the social justice blogosphere at large, the stereotype of a social justice warrior is distinguished by the use of overzealous and self-righteous rhetorics, as well as appealing to emotions over logic.

Not only REFUSE to see the movie, but spread the word to as many men as possible. Not all of them have the keen eye we do here at (Return of Kings.) And most will be taken in by fire tornadoes and explosions.

NPR thinks the movie's feminist, too (though they're not using that as an objection.)

-- wanderwoman, IME neither do non-feminist women; who often seem to think of men as helpless and emotional creatures who need to be coddled (and no, I did not reverse my genders there.)

Every Friday, the local paper's movie critic spends a half hour on a local radio station discussing the week's new movies. I like his writing, and respect his opinion.

I've never, ever heard him get foaming-at-the-mouth excited about a movie before. He did this time.

I could use a little brain washing & indoctrination, so I'm planing on seeing it this weekend.
