Icon402 Ann Coulter broke her jaw?

There is a claim that was circulating a few months ago that Ann Coulter had broken her jaw and had it wired shut. This made some of the political gossip circuits as well as the humor circuit (proof that there is a God), however I have not been able to find anything to substantiate this claim from more mainstream source. To the contrary, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites it as unlikely.

Those who cite a source claim it came from "page six" of the New York Post. Perhaps not realizing that the world does not revolve around the big apple and it's newspapers, I suppose people may have missed (as I found with a little research) that "page six" is the gossip column of the Post, and that the post itself has a somewhat questionable reputation. So it's from a page for unsubstantiated claims from a publication which is questionable to begin with.

I'm thinking the rumor to be false, but wanted to run it by you nice folks.

I don't know if it's true; it actually sounds like it isn't, but I sure wish it was true. I can dream can't I?

If Ann Coulter did have her mouth wired shut, I would think it more likely to be a misguided weight-loss method.

Having known two people with their mouths wired shut, I can tell you it will NOT shut her up. She'll just be harder to understand.

How unfortunate. As it stands, her need to be inflammatory is basically self-promotion. Her vituperative notions about the world are incomprehensible to me.

No, she won't.

You use your lips and tongue to speak intelligibly, not your jaw. The reason ventriloquists can be hard to understand is that they don't move their lips, not because they don't move their jaws.

I speak from experience.

I know I wrote about this in my own journal, so I went back looking for the link, but it was no longer valid. I did a little searching, but all I found was the mention of the NY Post article in an opinion piece for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette :
While I cannot exult over anyone's suffering, I must admit to being grateful that Ann Coulter's jaw is literally wired shut -- the result of a broken jaw, as the New York Post reported this week.

And a Q&A from AJC:
Q: I heard that Ann Coulter had her mouth wired shut. If this is true, what happened?

SARAH JENKINS, Fairburn

A: In late November, the New York Post reported that the conservative columnist had broken her jaw —- how was not explained —- and had her mouth wired shut.

If true, she’s well on her way to recovery. On Dec. 10, she spoke at an event hosted by the New York University College Republicans Club.

ETA: The original NY Post piece and The same thing in the Huffington Post

Maybe it was wishful thinking, because I can only imagine how many people wish they could break her jaw and shut her up.

I figured this was going to be some joke about how she broke her jaw by trying to pull her head out of her ass, but then I realized that wasn't likely, as she'll never try to do that.

Well, then it was just the two people I know that were harder to understand.

Yeah, I knew a girl in high school who got her jaw wired shut. While you could still understand her, her speech was definitely impaired due to her inability to move her jaw.

Or maybe your friends just didn't practice as much as I did.

Yeah, but did you practice ventriloquism or practice having your jaw wired shut?

I wish. I practiced talking a lot with my jaw wired shut.

The only good think about it was that I was allowed to have all the milkshakes I wanted, whenever I wanted (with a few additions to make them healthier). Being 12, I was totally unaware that I was losing weight (which is why the milkshakes). When was the last time that happened (well, actually--when I was 12. Duh.)?

I'm surprised no one has pointed out the obvious. Even if her whole mouth was glued shut it wouldn't shut her up because she talks out her arse not her mouth.

Yikes... sorry about that. Having your jaw wired shut isn't really something that should happen enough that you get practice at it. So yeah, you're right that they didn't have as much practice.
