II just saw a political post on Facebook alleging Jed Bush supported white supremacy. Is this a political sham or is there something to it?

It is most likely a lie. None of the Bush family has ever espoused white racism.

The closest thing I can find is references to the Bush family supporting the Nazis theory that's been floating around for years and Scalise's speech before a white supremacist group in 2002 (but I still have not figured out how that supposedly connects to Jeb).
eta- Not that I think Jeb is a white supremacist. |

Unless it's a more specific claim, it's not really something that can be refuted but given what we do know it's not remotely credible. The Bushes have had certain civil rights issues about affirmative action and gay rights but their actions, policies, and words on issues such as racial discrimination have been so far removed from and opposed to white supremacy as to make the claim sound ridiculous - stupid, frankly.

For all his many, many faults, that is not one of them. Despite what Kanye West said.

pinqy, most of this board is going to assume you're joking; but Smigou may be new here (or may, of course, have been lurking for years).
Smigou, welcome to the boards! -- did the Facebook post give any source for the claim, or any specific quote? or was it just a general noise? I agree with others that while the Bushes certainly have their problems this seems most unlikely to be one of them. |

I'm guessing this is based on Jeb Bush's praise for Charles Murray, who wrote (among other books) The Bell Curve.
ETA: Note that Bush didn't specifically praise The Bell Curve and that Murray has a number of other novels that are much less controversial. |

The Bell Curve is b*****t, not fiction.

The Bell Curve is the most controversial book that nobody has actually read.

If the Bushes' were members of the KKK the Democrats would have drug it up years ago. It reminds me of all the rumors surrounding Obama - if there were any truth to them their opponents would have shown it years ago. Politics is a dirty business and the minute you run for office your opponents spare no time or expense looking for dirt.

Seems very unlikely. The Bush family is heavily involved in politics, so even if a member of the family DID have some white supremacist sentiment, they would most likely keep it under wraps to avoid potential future backlash.
