It doesn't matter how old you are Elkhound. When you lose your parents, you still feel like an orphan.

Zane will never be replaced, no more than any other could replace your parents. Do remember though that there are a lot of animals out there that could use a pair of loving arms and a warm heart. Sometimes the best healing comes when we heal someone else of pain.

I know that this is coming for my 17 year old ginger boy one of these days, and I'm dreading it. You did the right thing for Zane. I wish it didn't have to hurt so badly!

The simple answer is to get another cat. Their personalities aren't replaceable by any means, but having a new furry buddy might be the ticket. Learn the new cat!

I would have a hard time as well. My current cat is my buddy. I don't know exactly how that happened.

I would love to get another cat, and will as soon as I can, but right now I'm unemployed (and my benefits have just run out! Fortunately, I have a residual from my late father's pension coming in each month.) It would be irresponsible for me to take on the care of another living creature when I don't know if I will be able to take care of myself.
