Our most recent photo thread seems to be full and locked, but I just have to brag about getting to ride a Zamboni on Friday night.

Lol, I was reading vacuum cleaner reviews on Amazon.co.uk yesterday; whatever the brand or model... all the reviews were for hoovers!

I recently returned from several weeks in Peru. Here's me sandboarding on the dunes near Nazca:

Are those trails behind you in the sand, what it took for your toes to slow you down?

Yes. I'd just come down a massive dune and, having no previous experience, was instructed to use my feet as brakes. On most occasions I just kept my toes in the sand during the whole run, otherwise I just shot like a bullet.

You look like you were having an absolute blast.

It was fun and terrifying and I was picking sand out of my hair for a week.

Yes... You might say that "blast" you had was a sand blasting. I'll be here all week.

My watch face actually got etched by the force of the sand! I'm glad I was wearing my "old lady" sunglasses to protect my regular eyeglasses.

Putting my brave face on... try not to be horrified! An image of me from the Seattle Slutwalk 2012 from their flickr feed: (linked to since there's visible bra and such, not bad but just in case)

I had mentioned earlier in one of the threads that I had to deliver a truck to Yellowknife, NWT and was going to fly back to Hay River to meet my ride south. WildaBeast had asked if I was flying Buffalo and indeed I did. Tada
![]() Oops, wrong buffalo. This is better. ![]() And up front in the cockpit was Buffalo Joe. But I didn't get a good shot of him. ![]() That's not him either. That's just some goober from Alberta. ![]() |

How old was that beautiful plane? Love the Dakota/DC3/C-47.

I've been trying to find out but it doesn't list the ages anywhere that I have found. The interior of that particular plane looked quite well used.

As for looking up the age, have you tried searching based on the registration number? In the US that almost always brings up the FAA record on the plane, which includes the year of manufacture. ETA: After a little detective work (I had to search for pictures of Buffalo DC-3's in general to figure out your plane was registered C-GWZS, not C-GW23 like I first thought from your photo), I found a few sources that say it was built in 1942. So she's 70 plus years. And damn rugged for her age. We hit turbulence at the edge of a thunder storm about five miles out from Hay River. We dropped twice, fast enough that all the magazines in their pockets and the guy behind me hit the ceiling. I remember thinking that another one of those and we'll be through the ice on the lake. It was a bit of a thrill.
