Lawyers for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will try Monday to convince a judge that he cannot get a fair trial on charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy because of highly charged statements made by President Trump.

President Donald Trump's campaign-trail criticism of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, while "problematic," hasn't prevented the soldier from getting a fair trial on charges that he endangered comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009, a military judge ruled Friday.

It wasn't just the word "but.". It was the fact that, even though he apparently got the message that he shouldn't comment, he then referred people to his past comments in which he called him a traitor, said he should be executed, or that he should be flown back to Afghanistan, dropped in the middle, and left there, among other thoughts. That sure looks like a commander trying to have influence to me.
