Release of "Mississippi Burning" in France

I can't believe I even have to ask, but I did do a quick search on this and I couldn't find it debunked anywhere. While reading a blog entry about the recent mayoral election in Philadelphia, MS, which got hijacked into a discussion of Mississippi Burning, I saw a comment that when the movie was released on video in France, the promoters gave out KKK masks with the tapes.

No, of course I don't believe it. But I'm curious as to anyone else has heard this one.
