Comment: Someone told me today that no matter what, when you die, you die
with your eyes open. Even if you die in your sleep, your eyes open right at the last second. Is this true? |

Those of us who have seen others die can attest that the OP is not true.

Like ZF said. My mom was unconscious for almost 24 hours before she died and her eyes remained closed.

If you're eyes are open at the moment you die, then you die with your eyes open. This is common in sudden or violent deaths. More often a person slips into shock or unconsciousness immediately preceding their demise and therefor their eyes are closed.
ETA: My opening statement may qualify as one of the most idiotically obvious things I've ever written. But I'll leave it in there. |

I was with my grandfather when he died, and his eyes were shut for several hours beforehand, and they remained shut after he died.

When I read it, I nodded at its wisdom and didn't realize its lameness until I got to your ETA!

the "Someone" in the OP was actually making a comment about predestination. The person who wrote the comment will, in fact, die with their eyes open. Is preordained to be so. Unless they go back in time and kill their own grandmother.
This comment may, or may not, apply to other people, as already noted. |
