Yow! Strange Squid with Human-Like “Teeth”


This strange squid at 25 mm long was captured off Tristan Da Cunha, south Atlantic Ocean, at a depth of about 2,000 meters. It is known as Promachoteuthis sulcus. Looks scary!

I think I've seen that squid on Ugly Overload.

I'm guessing those stunning pearly whites are actually flaps of skin?

According to Wikipedia the whole species has been identified from that single specimen caught off Tristan de Cunha, so comparison photos will be hard to come by.
