Military Obama rude to Marines on golf course

Comment: From an old friend.......

My wife and I were on Oahu for our annual Hawaii trip with good friends and two granddaughters enjoying the hospitality of the Hawaiian people on this lovely Island. Being retired military allows us the privilege of using the military facilities and especially the highly desirable golf courses.

Yesterday, Jan 4, we had a tee time of 12:04 PM to play golf at Kaneohe Marine Corps on Oahu. We arrived early because we were advised the President was possibly going to play but also that he was leaving to fly back
to D.C. That same day.

We checked in and were second off and waiting for carts when we were advised that he really may be coming but there was no count of when or how many in the party. We then got body scanned, our golf bags searched and briefed on the proper behavior expected.

He and his party finally arrived at 1:00 and he then hit balls on the range and then drove right in front of us on his way to the first tee hollering "Happy New Year" to the small group (50 or so) of golfers waiting to play. They keep two fairways clear for him, both front and rear, and the secret service used 30 golf carts in all.

After he teed off they went down the first fairway and I spotted a single golfer going to the first tee. Someone hollered at him to get off and he slowly ambled his way toward us and when within talking distance he said he was White House staff and was allowed within the two fairway space.

I cannot repeat what was said to him. We were finally allowed to tee off at 1:30 PM and watched as the President bullied his way through all the young Marines who were able to take a day off as they prepared to go to wherever to protect us all.

No words of thank you for your service or how are you doing, just he and three of his civilian high school buddies messing up the day for many. They would make the two groups ahead of his progress move to the side and allow the group to play through.

It really is bothersome to view firsthand the egotistic ass that is our President. I asked numerous Marines who were standing around what they thought of
him and not one of the thirty or so had any kind words. The common refrain was why did he not come out and join a threesome of young Marines and play golf with them. That would have been so appropriate. Why doesn't his staff make a tee time like all of us and cancel if necessary? That would eliminate
all the confusion. Why does he not respect the lives of all around him instead of being so arrogant.

Thank God he left last evening. We were out there for 5 1/2 hours and quit after 14 holes and left the course with a total lack of respect for our President.

Semper Fi - Robert Gates assessment is right in line with above!

Do Marines playing golf typically wear uniforms or do they wear civilian clothes? If the latter, how is Obama supposed to know they were Marines? From what I can see, the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course is open to civilians with no military or DoD connections.

Ya, I miss the days when Presidents like Bush (x2) and Reagan just queued up at the first tee with all the common folks.

They could be wearing a golf shirt with a logo that could be associated with the marines I suppose...

Why do all these "pro-military" social media stories make servicemen and women sound so whiny and dumb?

"I had to wait to play golf!" "Who would have guessed that the President would have a lot of security around him?" "Obama didn't speak to me personally, like I deserve as the specialist snowflake in Special Snowflaketown!" "He spent time with his friends rather than complete strangers who happen to be in the military!"

So he didn't totally ignore them? Like you seem to imply at the end?

Why? Because it was too obscene to repeat? Because you didn't hear it? Be a little more specific, please.

And if he did then it probably would of been something along the lines of " These 4 Marine buddies just wanted to play a round together before shipping out to go protect our freedoms and the arrogant President made one of them sit out so he could play with them."

Yes, but they're the kind of people you want at a golf course. If you know what I mean.

From what I've read about the 'anti-Obama' people, this kind of article is par for the course.

sorry

Not to mention that since all the Marines there hate him, it would have been torture for the three that played. So it would have been, "Freedom preserving Marines made to play golf with Obama for photo op, even though they hate him."

So, a group goes to play golfing knowing that the President might be there as well, and is SHOCKED that the president will be given preferential treatment and they have to wait and make way for him? Or that, since he is the President, he will be expected to play through instead of waiting for a group to finish.*
What a tyranny! We need a revolution right now!

*I am not a golf player, but isn't there a rule that a slower group makes way for a faster group?

Is tee off time that precise. I'm not a golfer, so I don't know, but it's hardly a rocket launch. In the casual environment of the golf course, surely the times are approximate.

On a side note, I work in the travel business and am always amused when American based airlines list their departure and arrival time to the precise minute. The rest of the world rounds it off to the closest five minutes, with the exception of midnight.

I think Roadie's comment was that it was called tee time, rather than tee off time.

And tee off times are to the minute. In my former golf club, it was every 8 minutes all day for a foursome. So, a 12:04 tee off time would not be unusual.

The golfers I know say "tee time," not "tee-off time."

Me too. I can see a casual golfer using the term interchangeably.

Years ago a guy one of my friends was dating went off on a rant about the security precautions when POTUS was traveling somewhere. The theme of his rant was "who does he think he is?" which of course misses the point: the security isn't because of who he is, it's because of the position he holds.

He's been here a few times (as have other presidents I'm sure but not while I lived here) and yes the increased security is a huge pain.. But normal people just get that is the reality of having a high-profile person around. I guess any chance to hate on the guy you didn't vote for is worth taking though..

I live in the largest city, and the state capital, of a very important swing state. POTUS visits are not uncommon, especially during election years. And they often mean that long stretches of I270 -- the ring highway around the city -- are closed, often during rush hour. I'm sure there are plenty of veterans among the thousands of people who are inconvenienced. Maybe some of them whinge about it, but if so I fortunately haven't been exposed to it.
