Icon220 Dianne Feinstein on guns

Comment: I have seen several times on facebook a meme which quotes Dianne
Feinstein as having said, "Women are not capable of defending themselves
with death machines we call guns . . . " In some cases the quote is
extended to include a second clause which goes something like, 'women are
designed to give life not take it away." I have searched extensively
online and cannot find the source for the quote. Can you tell me if she
really said / wrote this?

Feinstein is a favorite punching bag of the gun lobby. That could at least explain how this one got attached to her name. But I've never heard of her saying that.

I spent a chunk of time searching for this two days ago. Nothing. Then the person who posted it on his fb page, who'd called her out for being sexist, said "Even if she didn't say it, she's antigun."

Indeed, I can see why the deaths of Harvey Milk and George Moscone would have made her such an advocate for gun control. I mean its probably never just one reason what leads someone to certain issues, I'm sure there was a lot of research and analysis involved, and probably hearing about other tragedies. But I would wager that the memory of losing two colleagues and friends probably never left and certainly served as the initial reason for her later advocacy.

She found Milk's body. They'd been talking just before he was killed. I've heard people claim she's "soft on crime," and it just boggles the mind.

It sounds much more like something a right-wing extremist Christian would say, except for the phrase "death machines."
