Chubby Checker sues Hewlett-Packard over app to measure penis size

Rock'n'roll pioneer Chubby Checker is suing two computer companies for allowing his name to be used as the title of an app that guesses the size of a man's penis.

Checker's lawyers are seeking half a billion dollars for the "irreparable damage and harm" caused by the Chubby Checker, an app for Hewlett-Packard's Palm OS platform. "This lawsuit is about preserving the integrity and legacy of a man who has spent years working hard at his musical craft and has earned the position of one of the greatest musical entertainers of all time," explained lawyer Willie Gary.

Oh dear. I assumed when I saw the headline that the app must have made disparaging remarks about Chubby Checker's own penis.

The story doesn't mention whether lawyer Willie Gary is suing anybody.

It's beside the point (and I hope he wins his suit), but that is hyperbole at best. He appeared on the scene a good five years into the rock era, and his songs were nice enough but they didn't bring anything new into the picture.

Ramblln Dave: I agree, even the drum roll in The Twist is stolen from Presley's Hound Dog. I think the pioneer usage just means from before that writer can remember any music.

It's embarrassing how long it took me to figure out the connection between the app and the person.

The song "The Twist" was actually stolen from Hank Ballard. Hank had a bad reputation (his early songs were considered racy) but the record company liked the song and was looking for someone a bit more audience friendly, like Fats Domino. Ernest Evans fit the bill, he was younger than Fats, more of a "Chubby Checker".

The song was not that important in the history of Rock n Roll, it was the dance that was important. Adults started doing it.

Adults, dancing to Rock n Roll. Oh the horrors!
