Roast with carrots & potatoes. I didn't have any onion soup mix so I threw in a beef bouillon cube & some dried onion flakes. I'm sure it's going to smell marvelous!!

But as to your other question, I'm pretty sure that post-apocalypse there will always be Wonder Bread and Twinkies.

I'm getting over a tummy bug and bad headache, and my son had a feverish cold, so tonight he's having peanut butter toast and custard, and we're having pasta with onion, mushrooms, peas, ham and cheese sauce. Comfort food for everyone!

Tonight was sweet and sour chicken with lots of veggies -- asparagus, zucchini, carrots, red bell peppers, onions and mushrooms -- over brown rice. And persimmon cookies for dessert.

For lunch garganelli with wild boar ragout, and caprese salad. Even better than the tagliatelle verdi or pappardelle bolognese I normally get there.

What do you use for crumble topping? I put streusel on top of pies, instead of a top crust, but never for something savory.

Just got home from work, and for my bedtime snack I'm eating a munchy crunchy no-better-apple-in-the-whole-wide-world Braeburn apple. Gawd I love the Braeburn. If I knew who created the Braeburn cultivar I think I would marry him.

Sunday Night Stew, despite the fact that it is clearly Wednesday outside. A bit of an experiment, as Mom and I realized that neither of us had ever had turnips before, and ultimately a great success. I went the simple route of steam-n-mash potatoes rather than the cream-cheese-laden ones she uses, and I think anything fancier would have been too much. Whichever way you choose to go, though definitely include some kind of mashed potato. It pulled the whole dish together perfectly.

Hot, fried Herring sandwiches. It's the fish that gets shallow fried, not the butties!
We first had fried fish and salad sandwiches in Istanbul and have been experimenting making them with different kinds of fish since. Mackerel are good, or a pile of sardines, but herring dipped in oatmeal and fried is my favourite, if only it didn't take so long to pull bones out before you cook them. |
