Glasses Hurricane Sandy simulation

Comment: I saw a report about this dril that was supposedly conducted in 1997 about
a then-fictitious massive hurricane named Sandy that was going to impact
NYC and New England. The Weather Channel even ran the story on TV. Of
course, all of these reports have surfaced in the last four days, and I
don't seen anything on Google that could verify it from further back. Can
you verify?

In 2006 The Weather Channel did run a 2 season series called "It Could Happen Tommorow" a show which presented hypothetical weather scenarios in a faux-documentary style.

Episode 1 was entitled "New York City Hurricane Express" and did deal with a hypothetical scenario in which a Cat 3 hurricane struck the island of Manhatten and I've heard people online in the last few days claim that episode called the hurricane "Sandy" but I can't never saw the episode so I can't confirm that.

The hurricane names are alphabetical, so any hurricane starting with an 'S' would be a late season hurricane. Or late season hurricanes more likely to hit the northeast than early season hurricanes? If so, then it would be much less of a coincidence.

I just watched that episode on YouTube, and it does not mention Sandy. It just calls it The Hurricane. They talked about it hitting in late August.

They also have ten alternating name lists so they don't have to think out new names every year, but Katrina and Sandy will never be used again.

Sandy was last used in the 1984-85 season *. I don't know how often it's been on the list. (* ETA Oh, whoops: That was for the Australian region. It was on the Atlantic list in 2000 and 2006 but wasn't used.)
