Since it comes from a sea-dweller, can we start the "eye-eye cap'n" jokes?

It looks like a squid eye to my untrained eye.

FWC spokeswoman Carli Segelson says the eyeball likely came from a marine animal, since it was found on a beach
I would agree, that conclusion is probably true.

I change my mind, it looks a lot more like a large swordfish eye than a squid's. The grey skin around the mystery eyeball looks like how the eye is shaped on a swordfish.

Especially since we really don't have many land animals here in Florida that grow large enough to have eyes that size, and if a yummy morsel like that were in the water very long, something would have eaten it.

Cephalopod eyes are very different from mammalian and fish eyes. It shouldn't be too hard to narrow it down to at least vertebra / invertebra.

It does look very much like a fish eye (and some experts agree), but DAMN that would be an enormous swordfish. My father's a fisherman who also does taxidermy, so that's my point of reference. Average size of a full-grown swordfish is about 6 or 7 feet long...this would be a tournament-winning fish.

And it had been shot with a official Red Ryder carbine-action two-hundred-shot range model air rifle.
