UEL, your story about Oggle brought tears to my eyes. It sounds like your team gave Oggle a long and happy life. I look forward to seeing his successor.

Pretty, good Oggle. I hope the next Oggle doesn't have to walk through a mine field to get to you all.

I left in early June for my field season, and I got back and my kitten had grown up! Well, maybe not entirely (she's nine months old) but she's gotten a lot bigger and fluffier, which I wasn't expecting (I thought she'd start growing into that tail, not that it would get fluffier). But here she is in a favorite pose as queen of the cat tree.

Sometimes, my dog makes me catch my breath, he's so fracking pretty:
![]() At the rescue picnic Saturday. Also, had a touching reunion. I fostered Queenie nearly three years ago. I saw her at the rescue picnic two years ago, and haven't seen her since. When she and her mom and dad arrived saturday, I spotted them and called to Queenie. She went CRAZY. Whining, whimpering, trying to jump up into my arms. There was NO doubt that she knew who I was and had missed me. Her mom and dad said she never reacts like that to anyone. I'm not a big one for crying, but she brought tears to my eyes. After all the heartache and time and expense and worry, the dogs make it worth it, every time. |

More of Barkemedes at the picnic, along with his ex-foster brother, Finn (was Rudy). Oh, and me!

I love it when a dog has one perked ear and one floppy one.

I just wanted to update on our Oggle search. There are a couple of dogs that seem to want to come fill in Oggle's place. We are not actively adopting them, they are adopting us. One in particular is quite friendly.
As for Oggle's memory, here are some photos of our memorial to Oggle. ![]() This is our garden with the stone in it. ![]() A close-up of the stone. ![]() The plaque for Oggle. Oggle is not buried under the stone. The Cambodians with whom we share the camp demined a spot in the country, and dug a hole for us. They also affixed the plaque to the rock. They have been great neighbours. I will keep you posted if we end up with a new dog.

Aw, what a nice memorial!
I'm imagining a Lebanese version of the Twilight Bark from 101 Dalmatians, announcing an opening for a much-coveted position. :-) |

UEL -
Does "Oggle" mean anything in particular? I'm curious how that name came about. He sounds like a very sweet dog and I am sorry for your loss. |

Bailey is such a pretty kitty! She (or is Bailey a he?) always looks SO soft in the pictures you post.

She is. Although she's still got a lot of kitten in her so petting the softness (which as the Oatmeal put it is "like frolicking in the back hairs of an angel) runs the risk of Bailey deciding she's been petted enough and without warning turning into a furry bear trap made of teeth, claws, and pain.
