Split pea soup from the ham bone and leavings with carrots, potatoes, and onions, and buttered bread for dipping. It's soup weather here and it was so good! I made ginger cookies and lemon bars to take to work Thursday and we had the extra left at home for dessert.

Tonight is garlic pork, a sort of stir fry over rice with shitake and baby bella mushrooms, sugar snap peas, and, of course, garlic.

Beanie Weenies. That is, baked beans and cut up hot dogs.

A pasta bake with mild Italian sausage, tomato sauce, an omlet pkg (red onion, red pepper, green pepper, mushroom) and cheese.
The timer is on for another 15 mins and then I can eat!

Loads of nigiri. A Halloween themed "wolfman roll", which was a mackerel roll coated in bonito flakes with ponzu. Green tea creme brulee, which was a bit of an odd flavor combination.

Butternut squash gnocchi in a light parmesan cream sauce, pecan-crusted salmon, roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower, braised escarole, mango-quinoa salad, and pumpkin whoopie pies for dessert.
There is much to be said for the post-talk academic dinner, though I sometimes think they overdo the fanciness. But the pumpkin whoopie pies? Those were truly amazing. I could eat nothing but whoopie pie and be perfectly happy. |

Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, and peas. I decided not to try to use the top round for stroganoff and did the chicken one instead.

I personally love beanie weenies. (I make mine with a bit of sauteed onion--saute the onion in some butter, add cut hot dogs, stir around until the hot dogs are puffy, dump in some canned pork and beans and simmer. This is best with Van de Camp's beans.) And I almost always eat them with Kraft macaroni and cheese. It's my favorite comfort meal, to be eaten when under severe stress.
