Comment: Is this real? Do these people in the controversy "Spongebob"
video exist? Did this the crimes referenced in the article really happen? Why did the intern commit suicide? and Why'd an animator retire? If you're watching, Big Brother 14, you know why I'm looking up 'mist'! Thanks. http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Mist |

Comment: So my friend showed me this article about spongebob on
creepypasta.wikia.com and it is about an episode of spongebob where squidward kills himself. The article is called suicide squidward and in all honesty it freaks me out. It goes into great detail about the episode on the wikis and there are even trace clips floating around on the internet. I need to know if this is true. It honestly bothers me not to know if this is a story someone made up or there is a really ****ed up almost paranormal episode of spongebob no one can explain. Please look into it and let me know if the article in the wikia is even real. |

Well google's only knowledge of a Fife murderer called Andrew Skinner is the Creepypasta site. And I have no memory of such a murderer being in the news.

Well, the first page (that the second one is apparently a "continuation" of, with a different version of the supposed animation) is a semi-decent horror short story, but it's hardly convincing as an account of a true event. It's obviously a short story. "I never believed in unexplainable phenomena before, but now that I have something happen and can't prove anything about it beyond anecdotal evidence, I think twice about things"? Ooookay.
I didn't read all of the second page that snopes's link goes to, but clearly it's still part of the short story. It would probably be a better story without the supposed explanation about "Andrew Skinner", as Moku said. People who kill nine children in gruesome public ways tend not to go unnoticed by the media. What are "barrettes", by the way? |

Have to say, nice to see Fife getting a mention. It might be its first ever brush with Urban Legend fame!

Au contraire. It's been a longstanding legend that Opie was Barney Fife's illegitimate son by Aunt Bee.

*sigh* "Squidward's Suicide" is creepypasta. I'm always amazed at how many people believe these goofy things. Well, some of them are well-written, but most are just dreadful.

Seems more likely that the person who emailed snopes was either the person who wrote it, or connected to the person who wrote it. I can't see why several independent people would randomly notice that at the same time and not notice that it was a fictional short story.

Creepypasta is big with the pre-teen set. The fact that they are taking the initiative to independently verify is big...

I've occassionally come across commenters who wonder if certain creepypasta are real. I can see how some people can get confused about the better written stories that lack supernatural elements (e.g.Pale Luna), but so many of these stories suffer from the use of certain tropes such as photographs of living family members as skeletons, certain cartoons and older video games consisting of hyper-realistic art and graphics, and excessive mentions of eyes.
