There is much to pick apart about the column but the kicker is that it ends:

Internet fact checker Snopes.com gives the story an emphatic “true,” adding, “Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, sometimes not- so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self aggrandizement or personal gain. He does it because that’s just the way he’s wired.”

I didn't think it was something snopes would "add" and sure enough, the quote is part of the original email snopes investigated.

I believe it was around the 2010 election cycle Snopes said that you can always tell when a US election is approaching when you see some people on the left accusing snopes.com of being a right wing shill.

You see it year round from the right tho.

I've got an acquaintance who's a hard-core Obama hating Birther, and sends me every paranoid right-wing anti-Obama e-mail he gets (apparantly I'm on his "forward to all" list.) They can be quite entertaining, but I gave up any attempt at debating him. I sent him a Snopes link debunking one particular howler awhile back, and he promptly forwarded me an e-mail from someong who claimed that Snopes is "run by a couple of Lefty-Liberals" with an anti-American agenda.

What's really funny is that he's forwarded several "youwon'tseethisintheliberalmainstreammedia" e-mails that claim their "shocking revelations" have been confirmed by Snopes...but when you click on the embedded Snopes link, it's a complete debunking.
