Comment: My sister heard that Pokemon is actually a reference to the
Japanese kamikaze fighters that attacked Pearl Harbor. I think this sounds
false. Is there any truth to this?

Comment: There is a picture circling on Facebook starting that we are
goingon the wrong date. It states that October 4th, 1582 skipped to
October 15th , 1582. Is this correct?

Well, that's when SOME European countries transitioned from the old Julian calendar (which was badly out of synch with the astronomical year) to the new, impoved Gregorian calendar, now with Leap-Century(TM). Thursday, October 4, was followed by Friday, October 15, to take the hitch-step that was necessary.

In England, which had said essentially, "We ain't takin' our dates off no Popish country," the change was not made until 1752, by which time their Julian calendar was off by eleven days. They had to drop these days, so Wednesday, September 2, was followed by Thursday, September 14.

This is the reason why, though Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare died on the same date, April 23, 1616, Cervantes predeceased Shakespeare by ten days. They were on different calendars.

ETA: Today is August 9, 2012, according to the Julian calendar.

Well, Russia didn't change until it was the Soviet Union. So obviously the whole thing is a Communist plot.

Julian Calendar would be a good name for a fictional character.

I have actually plotted out a mystery story that uses this historical oddity as a jumping-off point.

Are you suggesting that Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare are the same person?!?!?!

That explains so much!

In other (not)related news, I only recently learned that C.S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley passed on the same day.

Coincidence? Or Conspeeeeeeeracy?

Comment: Is a current msg concerning the ommission of a quote by T.R.
Roosevelt "So Help Me Ged." was left off at the Soldier's Memorial At
Arlington.

I don't really know how to send this to you and just include it in this
form, but I will be sending it to you by subsequest email Ref: SADDENED
by an Omission.

If this is true, I would like to send it to every young voter and others
that I can. If not, I want to let the sender to me know that it is false

I assume the soldier was a high school dropout trying to get into college?

The real name of Calendar Man, a villain from Batman comics, is Julian Gregory Day.

I can only hope this information is of more use to you than it has been to me, so far.

Barbara Michaels used this as a plot point in House of Many Shadows.
