of seniors today. So many of my friends put me on their forwarding lists
for hyperbolic misstatements, frauds, fake virus attacks and so on.

something shared on Facebook, freak out for a minute and do nothing but

Origins" item. As usual, you correct the errors calmly, respectfully, and
with unimpeachable accuracy and evidence. Also as usual, your final
paragraph is both clear and interesting. In this case, however, it is
both histiologically accurate and emotionally inspiring. The last
sentence in particular is both a ringing affirmation and a rousing call to

Comment: Your site is fabulous!!! I've used it and referenced it,
directed others to it many times, but never thanked you. I run right here
whenever I get one of "those" emails or dubious facebook messages from a
friend or family member.

I've strongly suggested to my relatives to stop & wonder -- and to check
snopes before passing things along that sound prepostorous. But in one
case, my Aunt M, it's done no good and even backfired.

Before I asked her to delete me forever from her "forward" list I got one
that ended, "It's true - I checked it out on snopes.com!" From the way it
was copied and forwarded, I could tell it wasn't my aunt who'd checked on
snopes, but a previous person in this ongoing chain.

Guess what? Yep, it's listed as a hoax on your site, including
emphasizing that it includes a fake "bona fides" from you. I'm guessing
Aunt M was embarassesd that time!!

Anyway, the reason I thought of thanking you tonight is because I came
here assuming something I'd read in a much-forwareded email was FALSE.
However, here I came and found it to be TRUE!!

YOU HAD LISTED JUST AS MANY LINKS AND JUST AS MANY RESOURCES FOR IT AS
YOU DO FOR THOSE THAT ARE FALSEE!!!

Sorry, not shouting Just emphasizing! It hit me - you are not skeptics.
You are truth seekers! Very cool!

I have not counted the number of times I have checked something out with
you, and once I even made an enquiry. I do get tired of all of the
WARNING emails that well-meaning friends (and some people I barely
know)send me, but at least I don't forward them to everyone I know and
play into this game.
And I thank you that I have something in writing that I can show my
husband when he is convinced by something that he received from some
"reliable source".
I don't remember how I met you in the beginning, but I'm glad that I did.
I also don't know how you find the time to do this, but I'm glad that you

I am a huge fan of your website, and am not shy about it. I am a
practicing lawyer in Minnesota and an avid researcher, so not only do I
love your site's subject matter (debunking untrue information as well as
providing support for information that's factually accurate), but I
especially love your citations to sources for independent verification.

Case in point: my mom and relatives used to constantly forward me chain
e-mails, usually political. After the third or fourth time I responded
with detailed explanations of the inaccuracies and a cite to the Snopes
page on the particular e-mail/claim (often along with my own independent
research), I stopped receiving the e-mails. (That was a victory in
itself!) Not only that, but my mom also began checking your site and
correcting the e-mails she continued to received. Hopefully, other
recipients have done the same. Regardless, your site has been extremely
helpful for what I imagine was one of its original purposes--to root out
ignorance and expose it to the light of knowledge and reason.

Please keep up the excellent work and know that many people appreciate the
time and effort put into this site.
