Tourist can enter Buckingham Palace by signing the visitors' book

Ask to sign the visitors book. Given reasonable luck, you will be allowed to crunch across the gravel to the "Privy Purse Entrance," where you'll be admitted by a uniformed footman and allowed to place your name in the palace log.

those unable to get a ticket for Buckingham Palace can go to the front entrance, where the Changing of the Guard takes place, and ask to sign the Queen's visitors' book.

I heard this once more last night, but the person who had done it thought the practice was now stopped. Is it still true that you can get in to Buckingham Palace by telling security that you want to sign the visitors' book.

I can't say I've ever heard it. It sounds like a jolly good way of getting into any one of a number of Her Majesties other buildings though, all of which are designated HMP's, and be can be visited by and even slept and fed in, with the co-operation of the authorities, almost anyone.

I heard this too - 25 years ago or more. So its an older legend.

Please do, I would be interested to see if it works. I lived in London as a youngster and wish I had know it then.

Its been stopped now, unfortunately. But my Father did do it, many years ago.

You used to be able to ask a Policeman at the side gate to sign the visitors book. He would signal (later radio, but it was a long time ago when my Dad did it) to someone inside, and another Police Officer would come over, let you in and escort you across the parade area to a side door. The door led to a hallway, and a small room off the hallway had the book. You signed the book and were then escorted back to the gate.

OK, not quite positive proof, but I have no reason not to believe my Dad, and he did not just tell me it was possible, or that someone he knew had done it, he told me that he had done it himself.

Your father was telling the truth I myself have signed the book. The gate to the right of the main gate where the poliemans little hut is,thats where I went asked to sign the book and they direct you across the yard to the door opposite. A man in old fashioned livery (paten shoes,lace ruffles and velvet knee length pants opened the door. Turn left there is a room with a desk chair and the visitors book he opens it hands you a pen an you sign what you want. He opens the door you step out and every camera takes a photo of you (just in case you are someone) I have done this twice ,but many years ago and often wonder how many people around the world have a photo of me coming out of that door. So there you have it its not an urban legend you could do it.
