To be completely fair without knowing why I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to people I don't know, it's not stupidity. It's a combination of lack of understanding of unfamiliar aspects of Internet communication and a lack the kind of judgment that would cause other people to look a little further into the situation to avoid looking like a bit of an arse.

ETA: and in their defense... even if they do look like bits of an arse, it's the nicer, fleshier, peachy bits.

snopes.com was a link - the link led me to a site that has your logo and
the entire story was there. I went to your website and typed in the "Kitty
Werhmann" and your website said no results for this search. I'm telling
you this because I think someone may be using your logo and creating their
own fake verification site. Thank you for all you do to help us discern
fact from fiction. Just a heads up in case there are scammers out there.

The tag at the end of the first line makes it look like it's your website.
Then I noticed that its URL is MESSAGE.snopes.com,
not WWW.snopes.com. In case this is someone trying to masquerade as you, I
thought you should know about it.

Thank you for pointing that out. If I were you, I wouldn't trust anything anyone has written on THAT website. A quick look at this message pseudo-snopes website, it is obviously written by cads and bounders.
