The pronunciation of the town of Mexia is often the subject of discussion among those who haven't been there.

One day 2 Aggies were driving down to College Station passing through Mexia. As normal, they got to arguing about how to pronounce it. One said "Mex ee huh" while the other used the correct "Meh he ya". So to settle the debate, they agreed to stop in town and ask a resident. So they stopped at the first place they saw and walked in. They asked the woman behind the counter how to properly pronounce the name of the place where they were. She looked at them resplendent in their Texas A&M jackets and having confirmed that the two were indeed Aggies responded thusly: "Watch my lips. It is Dare Ee Queeen"

(Dairy Queen for those who don't get my attempt at phonetic spelling.)
