This was in a bulletin on myspace today... I used to think better of this girl...
Quote:
Who comes up with this stuff? I honestly don't think the oil industry is going to notice. As much as I am pro-environment and pro-alternative fuels, I just don't think this is going to do any good. Anyways, I was hoping for a good comeback bulletin in response to this one...

Tell them that it will have the same shattering impact on the oil companies that all the previous "Don't buy gax on X day" campaigns have had.

Don't go to the gas station on the 15th, just fill up on the 14th or 16th instead. Yeah riiiiiight that's going to work.
I notice they don't advocate not using your car as much, thus saving money putting a dent in the oil mens wallets and helping the enviroment. Want to save on gas prices take the bus or better yet walk. |

Exactly my problem with it lazerus. One day of not buying gas is not going to make any difference to the oil companies.
This is about the least effective and laziest way to "put a dent in the oil industry". |

This is another "fart in a hurricane" gesture.....
Of course, if everyone started using less gas, say 30% less...over time, it would make a difference....

This has been going around on Myspace as the self appointed Myspace crap poster, I have been sending the mainpage to everyone that posts this. It's also from last year, I haven't gotten any hate mail back yet! I wonder if they even drive

$3.00 a gallon? That's what, £1.50? I don't run a car, so I don't know exactly how much petrol costs over here, but I'm pretty sure it's more than that.

Yes, we pay less for petrol than the UK. |

A us gallon is smaller than a UK gallon (about 0.83 of a UK gallon), but petrol here is about 91p per litre = £4.13 per UK gallon or £3.42 per US gallon. Or $6.78 per US gallon.
Allow for my rounding. ETA Spanked by Mr Furious |

A whole lot more. While in London, my kids & I did the calculations and we were all astonished at how much you pay. Paris was the same. Heck if we had to pay that much, I might consider getting a smaller car....

You might have noticed that a lot of us have got smaller cars.

Yea, we did notice. Actually, Paris has smaller cars that London, but both have MUCH smaller cars than Atlanta. That was part of the "trip"; coming back to the US and seeing all of the monster trucks on the road here. Made us all feel a little sad (and embarrassed).

How the hell does that work? Or are myspace members being encouraged to drive their vehicles until they run dry, then never drive them again? As a person who desn't have a myspace account I am eagerly looking forward to taking advantage of the glut of cheap used vehicles sold on by ethical myspace users. Even if I have to bring my own petrol can. Or does this idea come with plans on how to drill for your own crude and build your own refinery in your backyard? The only thing I can possibly see from a "don't buy petrol on day x" embargo is a slight inconvenience to the petrol sation staff. On day x, they are sitting around bored out of their minds, then on day x+1 they have to deal with twice the usual amount of customers. |
