£1m Iron Age hoard found in Scotland.

Quote:
An Iron Age treasure hoard unearthed by a metal-detecting enthusiasts has been revealed.

The four gold Iron Age neck ornaments, or torcs, date from between the 1st and 3rd Century BC and are said to be worth an estimated £1m.

They were discovered in September by "first-time" metal detector enthusiast David Booth in a field in Stirlingshire.

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous - 2010 is definitely gonna be the year I devote some proper time to probing the fields around here for tre-jah!

Jammy B***tard!

My children thought I might find this interesting and got me a detector a few Christmas's back. It got recycled recently to a charity shop. I hope the new owner has more luck than me. The one and only time I tried this, I found loads of drink can ring pulls, a few modern coppers and some rotten bits of metal.

How Awesome would that be?
I have a 2005 MLP Fair exclusive Bay Breeze (somewhere). Last I checked they were going for $100-200 or so. There were only 300 of them.

Rule of thumb - make a pass with no discrimination turned on, see what lies there, and if it's fairly trashy turn up the settings to tune out the junk.

You might lose gold settings, but will retain coins with no problem. A good detector, though, has a way to "tell" what the target is. I used to run mine wide open, but knew after digging a few items what was trash and what was not. If there's a question - dig it up!

...I really need to get a new detector. Mine has been sitting dead for quite a while...

Your friend already had eyebrows ? They just enhanced them ?

My friend's dad has eyebrows, but he's got very light colored hair, so they blend into his face on camera. My best friend inherited that same thing from her dad, and has spent years buying eyebrow powder to match whatever color she decides to dye her hair. So yeah, they just enhanced. Looked fine on screen, but my friend said it looked hilarious in person.

So my SO came home from demoing a house last week and says "It finally happened to me. I actually found treasure buried in a wall." Then he pulls out of his pocket, a 2"x2" square piece of cardboard that says "TREASURE" with a picture of an overflowing treasure chest on one side, and has a level 6 wand on the other. Not entirely sure what it belongs to, but he is betting it is some really early Dungeons & Dragons.

We don't actually think it is worth anything, but it was just too funny.

Indeed. There was an old mint on the Thames nearby, and rumour is suggestive of a few likely spots where the effluent, often packed with 'scrap', is likely to have gathered. Friend of mine used to look at the digmap river profiles for the area and plan our missions - never got much further than the pub sadly.
