Vanishing Rainbow in the night sky

A ghostly image captured on camera by a photographer in North Yorkshire shows a night-time rainbow created by the light of the moon.

Saw this on Spacenews yesterday. The rainbow is fully seen by a time exposure of the camera, which wasn't mentioned in your article. Only red was easily visible.

Sunday night, Nov 1st, there was some thin high clouds with the moon behind them. This formed a rainbow ring around the moon. I only had my phone camera with me to take a picture. I will have to see about how good or more likely poorly the picture came out after reloading the OS on my laptop.

I could see all the colors. Blue was hard, and it faded out in spots. Yellow was actually brighter than red, which got pale near the top of the arch.

I don't see what the big deal is, it's just a picture. It's an image caught in time.

Too bad there aren't more pictures. I heard that the photographer would have taken more pictures, but his camera was dying and he dropped the fresh batteries as he was about to put them in. It was cold and he lost his hold to the shadows of the night.

Okay, I actually just made that anecdote up. We're a lie--you and I--a word without a rhyme.
