Comment: There was a legend during the Vietnam War of the "White Viet
Cong" or "Salt and Pepper". The story(s) goes that there were a white Marine and a black soldier who crossed over to the enemy side during the Vietnam War. Allegedly there were sightings of this duo throughout the conflict fighting on the other side. Sometimes it was just "Salt" who was seen. They say on the "White VC" that he would go to US bases to try to urge soldiers to defect and/or not fight. Some alleged witnesses claim to have seen these guys or heard them make false radio calls and trap platoons in ambushes by posing as lost soldiers. Some have identified these men as a guys named LaPorte or Weatherman. Some link these sightings to the real life collaborator Bobby Garwood. I've always wondered if this was all true or some army barracks legend created by soldiers to tell new troops. |
