Icon81 Katrina mass graves at Superdome

Comment: After Hurricane Katrina the New Orleans Superdome was used as a
casualty collection point. Many bodies of victims were unidentifiable and
uncollected.

A fried of mine insists that a private contractor was hired to dispose of
the unidentified bodies. He says they simply bulldozed over the bodies,
re-laid the astro-turf, and presto chango, New Orleans had a new field.

Is the newly renovated Louisiana Superdome really an enormous unmarked
grave of unidentified Hurricane Katrina victims?

Near as I can find, false. Unidentified dead were taken to St. Gabriels, a nearby town that was formerly a leper colony. It was isolated enough as to prevent spread of disease. The bodies were then identified and released to families.

Creative, but no. The cement floor I saw in the Superdome post-Katrina didn't look like there was enough fresh concrete anywhere to hide mass graves.

The field in a top line stadium is not just dirt with grass (or astro-turf) laid on top of it. It's a fairly substantial concrete floor. Buldozers would have to work pretty hard to scoop up the concrete then bury the bodies. Then you would have to pour a new concrete floor.

Within a year or two the concrete floor would start to crack and breakup since the decomposing bodies will start to compact.
