As temperatures flare during this week's sweltering weather, police expect tempers to follow. Since Sunday, Columbus homicide investigators have dealt with seven aggravated assaults in the city, including five shootings and a homicide. Most occurred while the sun was out, with the high temperature approaching the mid-90s. Detectives say it's no coincidence that people have become more violent in the stifling heat. |

I know we have followed a similar trend in the past, but this year is turning out weird. January was extremely active in regard to violent crime while June and July were relatively quiet. The past two weeks have been very hot, the kind of weather where we expect things to get busy, and instead have been very, very slow - which is a good thing for everyone.
