Here are three references. Not one of them agree on what rosemary by the gate. Growing well on the other hand, they agree about w/ gusto.

Rosemary is also said to keep deer away. By planting rosemary (or other aromatic herbs) at the gate, one could keep deer and rabbits from entering the garden.

As to the OP, I have no idea, but the thread title just sounded like something out of the STTNG episode "Darmok".
Somehow it just seems to fit in with "Darmok, and Jalad, at Tanagra" and "Sukat, his eyes opened". Then again, maybe it's just me.
