That happened to me too once; there was a couple arguing loudly / fighting in the street outside my house, and because there had been a campaign against dialling 999 unless it was definitely an emergency I looked up the non-emergency number first, and got transferred to 999. Although by the time I got through, apparently several other people had reported it, and when I looked out again there was already a car pulling up.
